In most of tantra books, Devis (Goddesses) of Das Mahavidyas are fixed: 1 Kali (काली), 2 Tara (तारा), 3 Shodashi (षोडशी), 4 Bhuvneshwari (भुवनेश्वरी), 5 Tripur Bhairavi (त्रिपुर भैरवी), 6 Chhinmasta (छिन्नमस्ता), 7 Dhoomavati (धूमावती), 8 Baglamukhi (बगलामुखी), 9 Matangi (मातंगी). 10 Kamla (कमला). And nobody has questions about them. If you master all Maha Vidyas, you are supposed to be a great Guru, super Siddha, and what not.
But have you ever thought why Devis like Pratyangira, Varahi, Sharada, Durga; and Devatas like Shiv, Vishnu, Brahma — and lot of others are not included in Das Mahavidyas ? What is the specialty about these ten?
The answer is.
These Maha Vidyas give blessings too fast, that's why they are recommended and every sadhaka runs for them. If you get right Guru and right Sadhana procedure, it is said, nothing is impossible for you.
