Many times I saw this option in my Android mobile, I understand WiFi but don’t understand HotSpot — so I didn’t played with it. ‘Coz earlier when I turned “on” one or other option in my mobile, much of my Android data just gone! I’m quite illiterate many times — but today I’ll dig all the roots regarding this HotSpot.
This WiFi HotSpot is interlinked with many things like Tethering; 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G … 100G (I don’t know them either, and there is no shame to declare that; many times we use a technology and they put some name for it and we get confused that technology with the name.)
So first check for the Gs.
# Single G: comes after “f”, you can use it for anything like Grams, Girlfriend, Goat and so forth.
# 2G: 2nd Generation (Wireless Telephone/Mobile Technology)
# 3G: 3rd Generation (Wireless Telephone/Mobile Technology)
# 4G: 4th Generation (Wireless Telephone/Mobile Technology)
Major difference among them in plain words — they differ in quality and speed as the value of G increases. If you want to read complexity please read comparison of wireless data standards. My Android mobile supports 4G but I don’t use it, I prefer WiFi router plugged in Internet Cable.
What is Tethering? In terms of animal it is to tie with a rope or chain; and in terms of devices, it is to tie with invisible rope or chain, that are called frequencies. We do this in smartphones to connect them for using Internet.
In Tethering itself, you get the option of WiFi Hotspot, after enabling WiFi Hotspot (with a Network Name called SSID, you may write any name there; and a password) you give access to other smartphones to use free internet at your expense (to use it they must know the password, if you don’t want to give them, keep it secret). I checked in my Mobile this WiFi Hotspot takes Mobile data, it doesn’t run on WiFi Router.
I think that’s enough.
In the end.
Let’s read some full form of abbreviated forms
SSID: Service Set Identifier
Router: a networking device that changes signals to use them in PC, Mobile and Tablet.
Fidelity: http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/fidelity
(M)VPN: (Mobile) Virtual Private Network
WiFi: Wireless Fidelity
WiFi Direct (P2P): A standard for connecting WiFi devices. I think, something like connecting WhatsApp App in your mobile to your PC (https://web.whatsapp.com).
MiFi: Mobile WiFi
HiFi: High Fidelity
HotSopt: A spot confined in some range, where people may get internet access.
3GPP: 3rd Generation Partnership Project
HSPA(+): Evolved High Speed Packet Access
LTE: Long-Term Evolution (for high speed wireless)
GSM: Global System For Mobile Communication
CDMA: Code Division Multiple Access (In India, as far as my memory works, Reliance first started these kind of mobile handsets.)
