Goddess Durga gifted him three arrows, out of which he could win the whole universe. The purpose of them was to mark and hit the target; they war so powerful that escape from them was impossible.
When Krishna wanted to test Barbareek for his arrows, and asked him to shoot the all leaves of a nearby tree. What Krishna did, he hid a leaf under his foot — but arrows had to fulfill their task; the leaf under the foot was marked, and when the last arrow came to hit it immediately Krishna pulled his foot, ‘coz they were not simple arrows they were made out of goddess Durga’s power.
And at last, when Krishna left his physical body, the coz was, you know? A arrow hit his foot.
