Whenever Monday and Amavasya meets on a same day — it is called Somvati (Somwati) Amavasya. Sombar (Monday) is the day of both Chandra and Lord Shiva, and Amavasya has its own special significance — that’s why this festival is so important.
Somvati Amavasya Vrat Katha: Turning misfortune in fortune
Once a Saint knew (while visiting a family for Bhiksha) that a girl had terrible future, so the saint told the matter to her parents. Parents believed the Saint and took the matter seriously, and asked him about the cure. Saint advised the girl to do Vrat and Puja on Somvati Amavasya. Girl did that with her full devotion for many years, and this cut her karmic debt which she had to suffer.
Due to Vrat and Puja on Somvati Amavasya, her misfortune (that was the death of her husband) turned in fortune. She got married with a good guy (he survived the death), and lived happily with prosperity and in good health.
