 Shani (Saturn) is one of the nine planets, its day is Saturday and gemstone is Neelam. No planet is good or bad — no one has personal issue with you. And each is equally important. They work according to their temperament or say energy: and it makes them good for some people and bad for others in a same time. Here is matter related to Shani (Saturn).

Shanivar Vrat Katha

It is said who read or listen this Katha on Saturday, s/he remains unaffected by Shani-Dhaiya, Shani-Sade-Satti, and other problem caused by Shani.

Katha is like this — Once all the Nav Grahas, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Buddh, Brihaspati, Shukra, Shani, Rahu and Ketu discussed among themselves that who is the greatest? They couldn’t reach on any conclusion so they reached to Indra. Indra sent them to king Vikramaditya saying that he was the wisest one and could solve their problem.

King Vikramaditya made nine seats each made of different element like सोना, चाँदी, काँसा, पीतल, सीसा, रांगा, जस्ता, अभ्रक and लोहा. Seats were put in a sequence, and Vikramaditya asked Nav Grahas to take their seat — Shani found his seat at the end and he thought to himself he was the worst and all were good. When seat sequence settled their issue, all returned to their place.

Shani made up his mind to take revenge on Vikramaditya. When Shani-Sade-Sati began on Vikramaditya, Shani intensified its effect on Vikramaditya, as a result Vikramaditya was lost in a jungle > while searching his way out, he reached in other king’s area > one man accused him of theft > he was punished > and lived a terrible life. One night Shani appeared him in dream and told how powerful he was that he turned a king into worst-than-a-beggar. Vikramaditya asked forgiveness and Shani removed his terrible effect from him — consequently, Vikramaditya got married to a princess, plus one other girl (whose father accused him of theft); got lots of money in dowry and returned to his palace.

Shani Ji Ki Aarti

1) जय जय शनिदेव महाराज, जन के संकट हरने वाले ॥
2) तुम सूर्यपुत्र बलधारी, भय मानत दुनिया सारी जी, साधत हो दुर्लभ काज ॥
3) तुम धर्मराज के भाई, जम क्रूरता पाई जी, घन गर्जन करत आवाज॥
4) तुम नील देव विकरारी, भैसा पर करत सवारी जी, कर लोह गदा रहें साज ॥
5) तुम भूपति रंग बनाओ, निर्धन सिर छत्र धराओ जी, समरथ हो करन मम काज ॥
6) राजा को राज मिटाओ, जिन भगतों फेर दिवायो जी, जग में ह्वै गयी जै जैकार ॥
7) तुम हो स्वामी, हम चरनन सिर करत नमामि जी, पुरवो जन जन की आस ॥
8) यह पूजा देव तिहारी, हम करत दिन भाव ते पारी जी, अंगीकृत करो कृपालु जी ॥
9) प्रभु सुधि दृष्टि निहारौ, क्षमिये अपराध हमारो जी, है हाथ तिहारे ही लाज ॥
10) हम बहुत विपत्ति घबराए, शरनागति तुमरी आए जी, प्रभु सिद्ध करो सब काज ॥
11) यह विनय कर जोर के भक्त सुनावें जी, तुम देवन के सिर ताज ॥
