This festival is celebrated on Bhadon Vadi Ashtami, this day lord Vishnu took avatar in the form of a baby (called Krishna) — since his birth he started killing demons like पूतना, बकरासुर, नरकासुर, कंस, and changed many like कालिया नाग. His guru was Sandipani, and he played a key role in the war of Mahabharata; in this war his words to hopeless archer Arjuna turned in famous spiritual book, Bhagavad Gita.
He showed that deception eliminates deception: his tricks of killing Bhishma, Dronacharya, Duryodhana; and equal to death Ashwathama — is a great example. Not only war but he was expert in many fields, like politics, love, spirituality and others; that’s why he was called Solah Kala Sampurna. In fact, most of Hindu Gods and Goddess are warrior by nature (hardly you may find anyone empty handed), they fight for establishing Dharma.
On Krishna Janmashtami, hindu temples are decorated with many Jhakis (झाकिया) related to lord Krishna; at the time of his birthday (often midnight) prasad is distributed among his devotees.
Learn from his crisis: The birth of Krishna was in jail; since his birth he was separated from his mother Devaki, another woman Yashoda brought him up; he was attacked again and again by Kans’s plotting; when he became adult he was separated from his love, Radha. But he learned many things and sat examples everywhere. In the end, while sleeping, he was killed by an archer. But he is immortal and his words are immortal in the hearts of his devotees.
