Generally Itar Yoni is called to Bhoot, Pret, Pishach, Rakshas, and their brothers and sisters. It is said, one who worships lord Keshav (lord Vishnu) this day on Jaya Ekadashi escapes Itar Yoni.
Jaya Ekadashi falls on Magha Sudi Ekadashi, and to worship lord Keshav, one should offer Dhoop, Deep, Flowers, Nvaidya (नवैद्य), Jal, Kumkum (Roli), and Akshat (Rice). And one should also do Bhajan, Kirtan, mantra-chanting, feeding to the poor in the name of lord, and other virtuous acts.
Jaya Ekadashi Vrat Katha
Once Indra cursed a Gandharva’s wife to be turned in Itar Yoni. She instantly became a Rakshasi (राक्षसी). Gandharva who loved his wife so much, visited Saint to Saint for cure — but he couldn’t find any cure. Narada Rishi, who used to roam everywhere around the world, once met this Gandharva. Gandharva shared his problem with Narada Rishi, at this, Narada Rishi suggested him to do Vrat and Puja on Magha Sudi Ekadashi. And also told him to transfer the Punya (पुण्य) of this Vrat & Puja to his wife.
Gandharva did so, after Vrat & Puja on Ekadashi, he transferred the Punya to his wife by a Sankalpa (संकल्प). Next day, on Dwadashi his wife got free from Itar Yoni, and they lived happily after that, singing and dancing (as it is Gandharva’s profession).
