You won’t know VDSL Router until you switch to Airtel High Speed Internet (or other internet service provider). When I switched to 24 MBPS plan, I was given a VDSL Modem (at a cost of Rs. 500 + GST), they said, my old Modem wouldn’t work well, so they needed to give a better technology Modem.
I loved my earlier Modem with double antenna, it worked well for 2 years and still was working well, when Airtel Engineer removed it and put a VDSL Modem. I think, in case of emergency I can switch to my old ADSL Modem, it is written on it that it can support upto 300 MBPS, but its technology isn’t that advanced so I thought to put it aside. And let the Engineer installed a VDSL Modem.
I loved ADSL Modem.
The good thing about ADSL is, it starts fast. When VDSL Modem takes from 2 to 6 minutes to start up working for Internet; but once VDSL starts working it keeps on working.
Should you switch for VDSL Modem?
I would say yes, always prefer advanced technology if you can afford. And I think plan for Airtel VDSL Model will hardly take 100-200 rupees more than your existing plan. So go for it. And keep your old Modem safe for emergency.
P.S.:
ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
VDSL - Very High Bitrate Digital Subscriber Line
