Dhoop and Deep are used in Shodashopachara or Panchopchar puja — indeed a main ingredient of worship. As home made Deep uses good ghee and oils like cow ghee, buffalo ghee, sesame oil, mustard oil and so on — there no health hazard with it. But who makes sure that what kind of oil manufacturers have used in Dhoop and Agarbatti (Incense-sticks)? I think nobody wants to care. And when I checked I didn't find it written on Dhoop or Agarbatti packets of different brands.
Is it that they use "mobil oil" instead of good oils? I often find, Dhoopbatti gives lots of carbon. Similar thing is with Agarbatti, yes lots of carbon. And carbon isn't good for lungs.
I think this is manufacturers responsibility to write the name of oil and other ingredients used in manufacturing Dhoop and Agarbatti. Brands who keep things transparent and provide mobil oil free Dhoop and Agarbatti, are indeed good. In case, you don't find good brands, try to make them yourselves.
