Balendu Vrat (बालेन्दु व्रत) is celebrated on Chaitra Sudi Dooj, it is the beginning of Hindu Calendar Year, and watching Chandra (Moon) in the beginning of the year, is considered very auspicious. Chandra is called Balendu ‘coz this day it is in a small size.
This day is the Vidhan of Sayuj worship of Brahma and Chandra; in day time one should worship lord Brahma, including homa and mantra chanting and at night time one should worship Chandra by offering Arghya, Diya, flowers and other things. Like Navdurga (Navratri) anyone (man, woman. old and young) can do Balendu Vrat and Puja.
Vrat Mahatmya (व्रत माहात्म्य)
It is said, this day, one who does Vrat and Puja with full devotion, they get their wishes fulfilled — and after nature death, they go to Brahmalok. Also it is supposed to erase bad karmas; and frees a person from the suffering of Daihik, Daivik and Bhotik Tapas.
It is also said, one who donates artificial eye made of either Gold or Silver, becomes a king (or queen) in next life.
