Kumar Vrat is celebrated on Chaitra Sudi Chhat, here Kumar means Kumar Kartikeya, Senapati in Devatas’ army, also known as Murugan. Kartikeya is the eldest son of Shiva and Parvati. Worshiping him is supposed to give protection, even from Yama, god of death; and other enemies.
This day, one should start Puja by establishing a Murti or an image of him, then making him Snana with plain water or gangajal, after it, offering kaner flowers, clothes, dhoop, deep, naivedya, and aarti at the end.
It is advisable to worship him with his whole family; Shiv, Parvati, his younger brother Ganesh, Nandi, and other Ganas of Shiva.
And for Bhoga, Kartikeya is happy with raw cow’s milk and banana. After offering Bhoga, one should distribute this as a Prasada among his devotees.
As he is a son of Shiva and Parvati, one should read Shiva Purana and Kathas related to Kartikeya. His Vrat and Puja is supposed to give wisdom, courage, honesty and other traits as he carries.
