In ‘var’ there is variation between ‘w’ and ‘v’. Brihaspat is the name of a planet (graha), which is also called Jupiter; and ‘var/war’ means day; so day of Brihaspat or Jupiter. As Brihaspat is the Guru of Devatas — this day is also known as Guruwar. In English, we know this day as Thursday.
There are many things which are related to Guruwar, some are as — yellow color, Kele ki Jad, yellow clothes, Pukhraaj, your spiritual Guru, and your commercial Guru. And mostly people do Sai Baba Vrat (fasting) on this day.
People whose Jupiter is strong, their intelligence is par excellence; if not academic degrees, they rise high in knowledge and wisdom; they are a great learner and become a great teacher too.
To make ‘Brihaspat stronger means, to make ‘Guru element stronger’; here is Vrat, Katha and Aarti for that.
Vrat
The purpose is to make Guru element stronger and for this one may have Vrat (fasting) for Sai Baba, or for his own Guru, or for lord Shiva, or for Brihaspat (Jupiter). For Vrat, take food one time, use things of yellow color as far as possible; offer yellow flowers for worship, wear yellow clothes, take food like Besan-Ka-Halwa, Chane Ki Daal, use Kesar for Tilak and so on.
Katha
Once a Sadhu visited a home for Bhiksha, they were in extreme poverty, they couldn’t find any food to give as a Bhiksha. Sadhu suggested them few things to do and departed: #) for daily — early morning home cleaning and taking bath, #) Thursday only — no cutting of beard, head-hair, and of any hair grown on the body, #) occasionally — feeding the poor, #) for daily — lighting Diya in the evening when two times meet.
After couple of months when Sadhu visited again, he saw that they were rising, they had enough food. Since that time people follow those rituals to attract prosperity in their lives.
